Rustey Hayes Battle Creek Rustey Hayes, 49, died Sunday, July 18, 2010, at his residence. Rustey was born on April 10, 1961, in Battle Creek, the son of Charles H. and Patricia A. (Blighton) Hayes who survive.

He had been a lifelong resident of the area graduating from Lakeview High School in 1979, then attended Kellogg Community College. He was employed at Carmikle Gas Co., and Amerigas for 17 years, was a lifelong fireman with several fire departments including Battle Creek Township, East Leroy, Tekonsha, Bedford and Springfield, and currently was employed with Custom Lawncare.

On March 15, 2008, he was united in marriage to the former Sonja R. Douglass who survives. He attended Rhema Word Outreach Center where he served as an usher, van driver and worked security for the church. He was involved in helping the homeless. He enjoyed softball, hunting, fishing and garage sales.

Surviving are children, Steven Hayes, Ben Hawver, Dan Hawver, Erika Sederdahl, Nicholas and A.J. Calderilla; 5 grandchildren; brother, Rickey Hayes; sisters, Tammie Latta and Teresa Jones.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 6 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at the funeral home with the Pastor Cheryl and K.C. Jones officiating. Memorials may be made to the family.
